Work With Us
An authentic angle on college admissions. Holistic, strategic and built for students who are more than their transcript.
Here’s the honest version of what we do:
Admissions Angle helps students figure out who they are, what they want and how to say both of those things clearly enough that a college admissions officer notices something different.
That’s it. That’s the whole job.
We’re not going to hand your sophomore a 12-tab spreadsheet titled Building a Personal Brand Through Passion Projects.
We’re not going to tell your ninth grader to launch a nonprofit because they once really cared about something for two weeks in eighth grade.
And we’re definitely not going to tell you that unless you start working with someone right now, the window has closed. (It hasn’t. Breathe.)
What we are going to do is help your student figure out who they actually are — in other words, their angle. What matters to them, what they’re genuinely good at and how to move through the college admissions process without losing their mind or becoming a very small, very exhausted corporate intern at age 17.
I spent eight years living in Seoul, where I got a front-row seat to what happens when academic performance becomes the only metric that matters. The ambition is palpable. The cost of that ambition, when it tips into pressure without purpose, is also very real. I came back to New York wanting to build something that held onto the rigor and let go of the anxiety.
That became Admissions Angle, the boutique college admissions consultancy I co-founded in 2019 with my husband, Alex. We work directly with students from 8th grade through senior year, and we take the work seriously without making the process too overwhelming.
We work best with students who have more going on than their current school counselor has time to see. With families who want honesty over reassurance. With parents who have started to suspect that the college admissions internet was specifically designed to make them feel behind. (You’re not).
Start Here
We offer a free 30-minute call because sometimes families genuinely need support for two years — and sometimes they need one honest conversation and a clear list of what to actually focus on.
We’ll tell you which one you are.
Upon meeting, sometimes I’ll say I think we should work together.
Sometimes I’ll say:
“Honestly? You’re doing better than you think. Here’s where I’d put your energy and here’s what you can stop worrying about.”
Both are real answers. Both are worth 30 minutes of your time.
The Strategy Session
One meeting. One clear, written plan you can take home and actually use.
The Customized College Roadmap is a 12-15 page written plan built around your student. It coveres course selection, testing timelines, extracurricular strategy, a preliminary college list and an detailed calendar to get from step one to application season without guessing.
Good for families who want clarity without signing up for a year-long commitment. Good for parents of:
Eighth graders who want to enter high school with a real plan — the families who start here leave with a four-year strategy instead of four years of catch-up
Freshmen who want to make the most of the time they have before the pressure starts
Sophomores trying to figure out what the next two years should look like and whether they're been building towards the right things
Juniors who feel behind and want a straight answer on whether that’s true
Seniors focused on applications and essays who need a clear-eyed read on their school list, their story and where to put their energy before deadlines arrive
Transfer students navigating a path that most counselors don’t know how to map — whether the goal is prestige, value or simply the right fit, we have a transfer strategy built for exactly this
Students at any stage who are mostly on track but have absolutely no idea how their story reads to someone who doesn’t already know them
This investment can also be applied toward any Admissions Angle service.
The Full Partnership
The essays. The list. The strategy. The testing conversations. The “I’ve changed my mind about everything I want in a school” conversations. The recalibrations. The moments when the process gets loud and someone needs to say, calmly: you’re still fine, keep going.
This is also where we get into the stuff that’s actually underneath the application:
What kind of environment does your child genuinely thrive in?
What do you want your kid’s college experience to be for?
Who is your child outside of how their school categorizes them?
What happens if the outcome looks different than what your family expected?
We take a limited number of students each year. That’s not a line, it’s just how we work. Closely, over time, with the full picture of who a student is and where they’re headed. This involves lots of conversation and lots of strategy. It also offers a lot of perspective when the process starts to feel like too much.
If we talk, I’ll be honest about whether I think we’re the right fit.
What We Don’t Do
We don’t write essays for students.
We don’t build 25-school lists to hedge against outcomes everyone is too nervous to name.
We don’t manufacture urgency. We don’t manufacture trauma narratives. We don’t manufacture a student’s angle. We don’t manufacture anything.
We don’t tell students who to be in order to get in somewhere.
And we don’t promise outcomes that no ethical person can promise.
What we will do:
Tell you what we really think
Ask questions no one else does
Help your student find language for what’s already true about them (their angle)
Stay steady when everyone else feels like losing it
Because what many years of doing this work in Seoul and New York have taught me is that the parents who panic the most don’t always end up with the best outcomes. The students who know themselves do.
That’s a harder project than most people expect. It’s also the only one worth doing.
Who is Admissions Angle?
Admissions Angle is a boutique college admissions consultancy based in New York City, founded by Noelle Compton and Alex Loveless. We work personally with students from 8th to 12th grade, helping them find their intellectual spark, build a compelling case for admission and arrive at college knowing who they are, not just where they got in.
We started this Substack because the information families need to navigate this process well shouldn’t require a five-figure consulting contract to access.
Why Subscribe?
Families spend an average of $1400 to furnish a dorm room, with hyper-customized dorm decor ranging from $3,000 to over $10,000. Most will spend thousands more on test prep, tutoring and application fees.
And yet the one investment that could actually change the outcome (personalized guidance, thoughtful strategy and honest perspective on a process that gets more competitive by the year) is something families prioritize, especially when their elite private school already has a college counselor.
Paid subscribers receive:
